Auto-Save to Browser

Never lose your work again

Automatic, Continuous Saving

Sitemap Editor automatically saves your work to your browser's local storage with every change you make. Add a page, rename a node, drag an element to a new position — each action triggers an instant save. You never need to remember to click a save button or worry about losing progress due to an unexpected browser crash or accidental tab closure.

The auto-save feature works silently in the background, never interrupting your workflow. There's no save indicator or confirmation dialog because saving is so fast and reliable that you don't need to think about it. Just focus on building your sitemap, and trust that your work is being preserved.

💡 Pro tip: For long-term backup and sharing, use the JSON export feature. While auto-save is great for day-to-day work, exported files can be stored in cloud storage or version control systems.

What Gets Saved

The auto-save system preserves everything about your sitemap session. This includes the complete sitemap structure with all pages, titles, URL slugs, and section assignments. It also saves any custom node positions you've created by dragging elements on the canvas, so your visual layout is preserved exactly as you arranged it.

Your preferences are saved too: your chosen theme (light or dark) and your preferred connector line style (curved or rounded). When you return to Sitemap Editor, it loads exactly as you left it, with the same sitemap, the same visual arrangement, and the same visual preferences. It's like you never left.

Privacy and Data Ownership

All data is stored locally in your browser using the Web Storage API. Nothing is sent to any server, which means your sitemap data remains completely private. You own your data, and it never leaves your device unless you explicitly export and share it. This approach also means Sitemap Editor works offline after the initial page load.

Keep in mind that clearing your browser's local storage or site data will remove your saved sitemap. For important projects, we recommend periodically exporting to JSON as a backup. You can re-import your backup anytime to restore your work, even on a different computer or browser.
